Anger is a completely normal emotion to everyone, but when it goes overboard can be very destructive and can damage your relationship with other people. It is imperative that you learn to curtail your anger before it engulfs your whole emotion thereby resulting in an imbalanced mental state of mind.

It is totally natural to get angry every now and then, it is unavoidable as a matter of fact. It is however inappropriate nor healthy if you cannot control your temper, and often lash out at others.

Below are a couple of things that you need to take notice of just so you realize that you indeed could be going overboard and need to start improving how you approach angry situations.

  • Your behaviour has led to any sort of criminal or civil wrongdoing.
  • You are violent towards your partner, children, or other people.
  • You threaten violence to people or property.
  • You have outbursts of rage that involve deliberately breaking things.
  • You have constant arguments with people close to you, your spouse/partner, parents, children, colleagues, or friends.
  • You feel angry frequently but internalise the emotion. You think that you may need professional help with your anger.

Anger in quiet people can however be more difficult to realize since they are mostly subtle or hidden. They will however erupt eventually so this has to be put into great consideration as well.

WHAT CAN I DO?

When something pisses you off instead of taking it all out on them instantly, take time to control your breathing easily in and out for a couple of minutes…Relax your muscles and unwrap those fists. Get your shoulders off that offensive mould. Once you are relaxed and you are breathing easy…..you can try listening to your favorite songs or writing down why you were angry as it will take a lot of your mind.

Also, it’s important to think of things easily and remember that you will get angry anytime again because it’s a big part of our behavioral pattern as humans. The idea is to control it as much as possible so as not to get our mind in an overly heated state and hereby causing serious levels of anxieties and blood rush around our body that could pose medical threats as well.

What If I Can’t Control My Anger?

If you believe that your anger is out of control and is having a negative effect on your life and relationships, seek the help of mental health professionals. A psychologist or other licensed mental health professional can work with you to learn techniques for changing your thinking and your behavior. A mental health professional can help you deal with your anger in an appropriate way. There are several medical remedies but we believe before you get to that extent it will be helpful to also get into a support group like purple heart club and people who genuinely care about your mental wellbeing since drugs can be addictive. Choose your therapist carefully, and make sure to talk to a professional who is trained to teach anger management techniques. Leave a comment below on what you think are root causes of anger issues and other ways you think people who are crossing that dangerous line can keep a level head. Cheers.

It’s like you were talking to my younger self. I used to be angry at everyone and everything. I can tell you for a fact that it did more damage rather than good. It took a conscious effort, a lot of work, self discipline and determination to curtail my anger. I really can’t remember the last time I was angry.. Great read. Great job Purple Heart

Anger stems from the mind, in my opinion. If you disregard the words of others, no matter how nasty they may seem, anger will have no place to settle in.
The causes more often than not are underlying issues such as inferiority complex, pride, perception, etc.
A change in thought processes go a long way to help in avoiding or managing anger
