While many use preternatural words to define my idiosyncratic personality, sometimes I want to self-isolate not for COVID-19 but for the fear of low self-esteem and other times I want to stay unnoticed. But little did I know that I was promoting my self into poor mental health.

Don’t get carried away thinking this article is just about me. No, it was inspired by the numerous cases of people I met recently experiencing rejection, depression, difficulties of all kinds, demoralization, while the most ridiculous but serious among all of these is heartbreak.

Have you ever imagined what the world would look like if everybody liked everybody? If everyone was white or black? If everyone was a Christian or a Muslim? If everyone hated you? Well, I really don’t think it would be fun, in fact, it is going to create a sense of imbalance in the ecosystem.

I’m pretty sure you’re wondering what point I’m trying to make right now but I think you should relax a bit, and get a glass of water before you continue reading this.

Isn’t it pointless to always try to point out the faults in others? think about the way you feel and the way it hurts when someone looks straight into your eyes and tell you that you are worthless. That’s supposed to hurt right? You right about that, it really hurts and I’ll like to tell you why it should hurt.

In just a sentence, you get hurt and let the words and actions of others deceive and weigh you down simply because you are not intentional and vocal about your MENTAL HEALTH.

MENTAL HEALTH includes your emotional, psychological, and social well-being, and affects how you think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how you handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

Poor mental health is what makes you think you can’t love again because you’ve been heartbroken a couple of times. Poor mental health is what makes you think your skin color is superior or inferior to another’s. Poor mental health is what makes you think you should take your own life because you couldn’t make a good grade, poor mental health is what makes you think you can not be a good leader, poor mental health will make you think you cannot keep on keeping on.

Balanced Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. A default in your mental health problem would mean your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected immensely.

WHAT REALLY CAUSES A GLITCH IN A PERSON’S MENTAL HEATH?

Although there are a couple of common causes of poor mental health, you would discover that a higher percentage of poor mental health is due to life experiences, such as trauma or abuse, some Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry while a very low percentage would be as a result of a family history of mental health problems.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT SOMEONE IS GOING THROUGH MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS?

It isn’t difficult to see it nor recognize it when it happens, you’ll notice some of these kinds of activities

  • Pulling away from people and usual activities that gave pleasure
  • Feeling helpless or hopeless
  • Feeling unusually confused, forgetful, angry, upset, or worried
  • Unusual misunderstanding with family and friends
  • Experiencing severe mood swings which in relationships lead to break up
  • Having persistent negative thoughts and memories you can’t get out of your head
  • Thinking of harming yourself or others
  • Feeling numb or like nothing matters

These are just a few of the signs you will definitely see when it starts developing.

Provided you stay positive and feed your mind with courageous thoughts and love yourself more than you can ever love anyone, then you have no need to worry about poor mental health because it wouldn’t be interested in you.
